Mary P. Nelson is a Shareholder of the law firm Abbott, Nicholson, Quilter, Esshaki & Youngblood, P.C. in Detroit, Michigan. She currently specializes in real estate and business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, financing and general corporate representation and serves as Chairperson of the firm’s Business Section. Ms. Nelson has extensive experience advising closely held businesses in commercial transactions, real estate development, leasing, financing arrangements and succession planning.

In this regard, she has represented developers of chain stores in their acquisition, construction and leasing of sites, the due diligence, negotiation, documentation, financing and closing of complex business acquisitions, the sale of businesses to publicly held companies and numerous real estate and business transactions, including stock reorganizations, mergers and asset based acquisitions.

Ms. Nelson graduated from Wayne State University in 1973, and earned her J. D. from Wayne State University Law School in 1980, where she was a member of the Wayne State University Law Review.

Ms. Nelson authored “Choosing the Right Business Entity, Advising Closely-Held Businesses in Michigan,” I.C.L.E., 2000, together with subsequent updates, and contributed to “Michigan Basic Practice Handbook”, Fifth Edition, I.C.L.E., 2005 and updates. She was admitted to the Michigan bar in 1980 and is a member of the American (Member, Sections of: Business Law; Real Property; Real Estate) Bar Association; and State Bar of Michigan (Member, Sections of: International Law; Corporations; Finance; Business).

Mary holds an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating awarded attorneys by their peers. She was also recognized as a Top Lawyer in Metro Detroit – 2010 by DBusiness Magazine.
